The purpose of the Community Chorus at South Berwick (CCSB) is to promote choral music; enrich community life in the greater Seacoast area with fine choral music; provide singers of various levels, as well as area musicians, the opportunity to perform and to expand their musical knowledge and experience; and engage the arts community as an active and visible participant.

Now in its 13th year under music director and conductor Dr. Harry Moon, the chorus was founded in 1975 by Dianne Colby-Dean. The Community Chorus at South Berwick offers talented singers an opportunity to perform challenging repertoire based on a limited rehearsal and performance commitment. The group was originally organized from South Berwick's church choirs. Since that beginning, the community group has expanded its program, audience, and concert repertoire. The chorus now performs great choral music from the Renaissance to twenty-first century music, including premier performances of commissioned works. Works are performed a capella, and with accompaniment including instrumental ensembles and chamber orchestras.

The current 60-voice ensemble is composed of musicians from Maine: Berwick, Eliot, Kittery, Sanford, North Berwick, South Berwick, Wells, York, York Beach and York Harbor; and from New Hampshire: Dover, Exeter, Hampton, Lee, Newmarket, Portsmouth, Rochester, Rye, and Somersworth. Rehearsals begin each year in September at the First Parish Federated Church, South Berwick. For more information about joining the Community Chorus at South Berwick, click here
